Arcadia Farms is another quaint café and marketplace located in Scottsdale, AZ, where the food is local, organic, and delicious. My fellow health-conscious girlfriend gave it a rave review, so I requested that we go there when she was in town last week. We walked into what looked like a pregame for the Kentucky Derby. The café’s strong southern vibe was enhanced by the sundresses, Chanel suits, and hat-wearing patrons. Their glamour served as a stark contrast to our casual jean shorts and Converse high tops. Despite being underdressed compared to our fellow lunching ladies, the hostess and servers were incredibly nice and attentive.
I didn’t see a mint julep on the menu, but I did order an apricot iced tea, which was very refreshing in the 110-degree weather. It was too early for me to drink wine, but I did notice their impressive wine selection for a later hour. We both ordered the Pesto Grilled Shrimp Salad ($14) with baby lettuce, avocado, tomato, goat cheese, grilled corn, lime vinaigrette, and frizzled tortillas. This salad is generous in size and flavor. At nicer and healthier places, portion sizes are generally smaller, but this salad was huge. And in my opinion, if you leave the dressing on the side, a large portion of vegetables is always okay. I opted to not have the tortilla strips, but my girlfriend said they added a nice texture to the salad.
Our two other friends ordered the Grilled Vegetable and Chicken Quesadilla ($13) with roasted vegetables, cheddar cheese, guacamole, and a side of baby greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, tossed in a citrus dressing – again, holy hugeness. I was so pleasantly surprised with the portions. Arcadia Farms really gives you your money’s worth. Both of them loved their quesadillas, saying that it was predominantly filled with vegetables, making it less greasy and more filling. For the fellow special dieters out there, Arcadia Farms offers vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options for breakfast and lunch. This place is both adorable and autoimmune-disease friendly. And if you and your girlfriends want to pretend like you’re Southern Belles for an hour, like we did, then this is the place.
