Just in case you missed it, a story that’s been captivating viewers for the past few months is that of aspiring model Chantelle Brown-Young from Toronto. This fabulous young woman has entered a space that generally sets unrealistic standards of beauty and turned it on its head! She is a finalists on the hit television series America’s Next Top Model! Her beautiful brown skin is covered in large white patches from an autoimmune condition. Vitiligo is a disease that causes the loss of skin color in blotches. The extent and rate of color loss from vitiligo is unpredictable. It can affect the skin on any part of your body. It may also affect hair, the inside of the mouth and even the eyes.
Chantelle’s confident strut down the runway wasn’t always so easy. She was diagnosed at age 4, and the white spots spread across her body over the next few years. She went from being bullied in school and having suicidal thoughts to being hand selected by Tyra Banks to join the cast of America’s Next Top Model.
