Why Kimchi and Sauerkraut Should be Your New BFFs

By Hannah Tice

If you’ve given these jars of fermented foods the cold shoulder, it’s time you apologized and became friends.

Yes, they smell a little funky compared to that sweet watermelon in the produce aisle, but they’re rich in powerful probiotics. Just a tablespoon a day can help prevent pimples and regulate your digestive system. They’re also inflammation fighters. That butter popcorn you ate last night at the movies? Or the milkshake that brought all the boys to the yard (the dairy version)? They cause inflammation in your body that leads to beaches, joint pain, and acne. Thankfully a spoonful of raw and organic sauerkraut or kimchi can heal your gut and skin. This is one relationship worth keeping.

Not a fan of eating it straight out of the jar? Throw some sauerkraut on a veggie burger or sandwich. Add kimchi to grilled tofu or sautéed vegetables.
