I don’t swim. I float. Unlike most children, I didn’t have swimming lessons. I still don’t know how to dive. The doggy paddle is my most advanced “stroke.” In high school, I opted out of swimming class and did swimming aerobics instead (only two other girls joined me in the pool of shame). It’s obvious to say that you won’t find me at the Y with a swimming cap on. Find me in the steam room instead. Luckily, there’s a new exercising trend on the horizon that allows “swim challenged” people like me to benefit from the pool without fearing the deep end. It’s called aqau cycling.
Imagine dumping a whole room of soul cycle bikes in a pool. That’s basically what Aqua Studio founder, Esther Gauthier, did. Esther says that cycling under water is even better for you legs than cycling above ground. With added water resistance, you recieve a natural leg massage. The massage helps drain your entire lymphatic system. In other words, your body breaks down fat and cellulite deposits.
Okay, I’ll get in a pool for that. Sure, results don’t happen overnight. But if cycling under water will eventually smooth out summer skin, I’m willing to give it a shot. It doesn’t hurt that I still don’t have to wear a swim cap.
