Calling all NYC Glutards and Vegetarians: Taïm: Falafel and Smoothie Bar

By Hannah Tice

What’s gluten-free, vegetarian, and under 10 dollars?  Taïm — a falafel and smoothie bar located in Soho and the West Village.

This little shop is packed with big flavor. Taïm offers 3 falafels: “one streaked with roasted pepper; another infused with harissa; and the third tinged with cilantro, parsley, and mint.” Eat them by themselves or add them to a platter of colorful salads. My favorites are the Moroccan carrots (sauteed with garlic, cumin, paprika, and extra virgin oil) and red beets (marinated with spices, lemon zest, extra virgin olive oil and roasted garlic). Don’t forget to add the chutney and yemeni hot sauce called S’rug on the side.

If you are feeling thirsty after your spice filled meal, try a refreshing smoothie. The banana, date, and lime smoothie is a dessert in itself while the cantaloupe ginger smoothie refreshes the palate. Yes, they have a soymilk and no milk option.
