An Anti-Inflammatory Cocktail?!

By Hannah Tice

It sounds too good to be true.

This ginger and turmeric “cocktail” might not have alcohol, but it does have a potent dose of curcumin—a compound that interferes with inflammation causing chemicals. Recent studies have even shown that turmeric relieves arthritic pain and muscle soreness better than drugs.

Mix up these tasty tumeric concoctions after a yoga session or stressful day of work. You’ll boost your immune system and alleviate joint pain at the same time (hangover not included).

Tumeric Screwdriver

11 oz freshly squeezed organic orange juice

1/8 teaspoon freshly grated turmeric root

1 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated ginger

Mix ingredients and serve or pour into a martini glass if you’re feeling fancy. Hey, it’s the little things that count.

Tumeric Piña Colada

2 cups coconut milk

1 ripe banana

2 soft dates, pitted and chopped

1 1/4 cups frozen pineapple

1/2 teaspoon packed finely grated fresh turmeric root (or 1/4 teaspoon dried, ground turmeric)

1 teaspoon packed finely grated fresh ginger

a splash of vanilla extract

Blend and pour into a festive cocktail glass. Add a paper umbrella, straw, or slice of  fresh pineapple to feel like the beach is a step away.
